Healing The Mother Wound + Generational Familial Messages

At From Wallet To Wealth, our mission is to bring healing and resources to women to raise their confidence so they can excel in their life, career and relationships. So far, we have raised over $100,000 for Halton Women’s Place with our events and fundraising.

We have a growing Facebook community of 1500+ women and our February theme was… THE MOTHER WOUND.

It starts with the generational messages we inherit and internalize that keep us from embracing our truth authenticity.

Our Mother Wound can show up in subtle ways. Examples would be:

  • You have to work "hard" for money -- especially coming from an immigrant family

  • Unhealthy coping mechanisms that stemmed from generations before you. A common example is alcoholism and addiction. This can even also show up as unhealed trauma.

  • Looking at Disney movies and believing that there will be someone to save you.

Sometimes, it can even show up as thinking and feeling: “I don’t feel worthy enough.”

These are just some of the many ways that mother wounds can manifest in our life.

Even if you have a great relationship with your mother, there just might be some aspects that you have inherited from your grandmother or even great great grandmother that you haven’t unpacked yet.

During the month, we did several livestreams to open up the conversation with our community members. In our first discussion, Whitney Hammond and Brittany Hammond address:

  • miscommunication patterns and dynamics in families

  • the 5 love languages and how it may have affected your ability to give and receive love

  • how to have a more harmonious relationship with your mom / daughter

  • epigenetics and unconscious learned behaviours

Have you ever noticed someone always responds the same way? They have a go-to response. Or you feel like you have the same arguments over and over again. That's because people have a patterns in their communication. Mothers and daughters get entangled in this dance of communication that can turn toxic.

Next, we hosted a panel conversation with 5 women and had an open, honest and vulnerable conversation where each woman shared:

The ONE thing they needed from their mom’s growing up, that they didn’t get

How being a woman has limited or expanded you

The ONE lesson/wisdom your mom passed on that profoundly changed your life in a positive way?

What is beautiful about this conversation is the diverse experiences of different women across different generations. Knowing that you aren’t alone and building a support system is key in breaking through our own limits. We all experience similar emotions.

From Wallet To Wealth is about raising women up! Our annual gala takes place the second Thursday of November each year. We also have monthly live (and virtual) events with guest speakers. Our 2022 event will be Thursday November 10th 2022. This event is in support of Halton Women’s Place and we will have an evening gala, dinner and 5 dynamic speakers share how they found advantage in their adversity!
